Keloid

A keloid is raised scar tissue that grows beyond the boundaries of the original wound.

It may follow acne, an injury or surgery and can cause itching or pain.

Treatment planning considers the scar's location, size and associated symptoms.

Silicone products, medicine injected into the scar, cryotherapy or laser treatment are options for selected patients.

Keloids can recur after treatment, and surgical removal alone carries a risk of regrowth.
